April 21, 2008 (Newnan, GA) — The teams are set, the course at Canongate-on-White Oak is ready. All that’s left to do before the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce’s sold-out Golf Classic on May 7th is to sell golf balls at $20 each for the day’s grand finale — the dropping of hundreds of marked golf balls from a helicopter to see which will get closest to the 18th hole. The winner of this “golf ball drop” raffle will win $1,000 cash and two round-trip tickets to anywhere that AirTran Airways flies (a $1,500 value).
Golf balls are on sale at the Chamber up until the day of the tournament. Participation in the raffle is open to anyone. Player slots are sold out, but there are still a few vacancies left for Expo on the Green and Hole Sponsorships, priced at $250 and $100, respectively.
“The golf ball drop will be an exciting new twist on what is already an action-packed day,” says Phil Aaron, Chairman of the Chamber and an agent with State Farm Insurance. “We’ll have more than 200 golfers playing on 27 holes, other businesses highlighting their products and services at the Expo on the Green, and of course, great food and lots of fun.”
Tournament Sponsors for this year’s event are the Summit Healthplex, Georgia Rehabilitation and Imaging of Warm Springs Medical Center, and Canongate Golf Clubs. Piedmont Newnan Hospital is a Silver Sponsor.
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. on May 7th, with tee times starting at 10:00 a.m. The golf ball drop will take place after the awards presentations, at approximately 4:30pm.
“This is a premier fundraising event for the Chamber, but it’s also an incredibly great way to spend time in a beautiful setting while supporting a vital Coweta County nonprofit organization,” said Aaron. “I hope we see many of our fellow Coweta citizens there.”
