What is Leadership Coweta?  As Coweta's challenges and opportunities become more complex, there is an increasing need to develop strong community leaders.  A program of the Chamber since 1995, Leadership Coweta is a comprehensive leadership program designed to educate and better prepare a diverse group of community, government, business, and nonprofit leaders to work collaboratively in addressing local issues.  The program provides a unique learning experience for emerging and existing leaders through an intensive 6-month program that trains, empowers, and supports leaders so they can effect positive community change.

Congratulations Leadership Coweta Class of 2010

Chamber Announces Graduates for Leadership Coweta Class of 2010

May 9, 2010 (Newnan, GA) — The Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce is delighted to congratulate the 19 members of the 2010 class of Leadership Coweta, the county’s most prestigious leadership development program. For the past 15 years, members of Leadership Coweta have learned about the business, government and nonprofit aspects of community life in Coweta County and have gone on to become engaged in many facets of community leadership.

The 2010 graduates include:  Kevin Askew, NuLink; Dee Ann Boone, Newnan Utilities; Marche’ Boykin, Goodwill Industries of the Southern Rivers; Beth Dow, Home Helpers of GA & AL; Andrew Dunn, Canongate Golf Clubs; Cheryl Hayes, PAPP Clinic; Luke Headley, Headley Construction; Bill Howard, Prudential Georgia Realty; Lisa Johnston, CLICK; Seth Millican, Brock Clay; Larry Owen, City of Senoia; Cynda Pierce, Tom C Hudson, CPA, PC; Sharon Renaud, Georgia Power; Teresa Singley, Piedmont Newnan Hospital; Aleisha Steele, Cargill; Matthew Swope, Rosenzweig, Jones, Horne & Griffis, PC; Jan Teasley, BB&T Bank; Rosalita Troutt, West Georgia Technical College; and Stephanie White, Georgia Power.

“This class really was amazing in terms of their energy and commitment,” said Bill Blackmon, Georgia Power Company, chair of the 2009-2010 Leadership Coweta program. “I was thoroughly impressed with the way they all took the ball and ran with their assigned community engagement projects.  Several of the groups are continuing work on their projects, which include working with the Airport Authority, securing funding for healthcare awareness and organizing a tour of the sites Alan Jackson sings about growing up in Newnan.  This is definitely a promising group of community leaders who have the potential to do great things.”

“On the whole, I was impressed with how well our county is running and how hard people are working to make that happen,” said Matthew Swope, an attorney with Rosenzweig, Jones, Horne & Griffis, P.C.  “It’s something you don’t normally think about. I went into the class with a deep passion for Newnan and for Coweta County, but after this experience, I realize that we have a lot of possibilities and responsibilities in terms of economic development and growth. Fortunately, there are a lot of other passionate people who want to be involved in taking us in the right direction.”

The Leadership Coweta experience begins with an annual one-day retreat. Over the course of the program, participants examine virtually all aspects of life in our County, including education, healthcare, regional leadership, community, economic conditions, growth, daily life, infrastructure, community safety and local government.  The curriculum is tied closely to the issues and priorities identified in the Chamber’s annual business plan.

Details are being finalized for the 2010-2011 class, which kicks off in September.  Application information will be available by June 1.  For questions or to nominate a promising, up-and-coming Coweta leader, contact the Chamber at 770.253.2270 or email Valerie Ward at valerie(at)newnancowetachamber.org.
