Every year on Labor Day Weekend, Coweta plays host to one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious festivals—the Powers’ Festival. Founded in 1971 by local artist Tom Powers, who envisioned this annual gathering of artists and craftspeople at his boyhood home—the historic Powers Plantation, today’s festival is managed by Coweta Festivals, a non profit group made up of five community organizations (Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Coweta 4-H, Newnan Jaycees, Pilot Club, and Newnan Art Association. Proceeds from each year’s event are returned to the community through a variety of projects.
