Program History

As early as 1999, several leaders in the community realized that a common vision and plan for growth was needed to guide Coweta's expansion in a way that preserves quality of life and makes the most of new opportunities. Vision 2020 was begun in 1999 by Coweta County, the Coweta School Board, the City of Newnan, Peachtree Regional Hospital, 21st Century Coweta, and the Newnan-Coweta Chamber.  In 2004, the Chamber made Vision 2020 a priority activity and helped engage community leaders and representatives to conduct the 2005 "Be Something Different" community survey, analyze the data, and develop future plans for Coweta County.

In 2005 and 2006, 11 Chamber committees spent more than a year exploring all aspects of quality of life and growth in Coweta County. As the Chamber committees worked, it became amazingly clear how interconnected all of the 11 key areas really were. The data that each of the committees studied fit into more than one area, which led to the creation of four think tanksin 2008: healthcare, education, services and economic development.
