Surface Prep Technician

We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Surface Prep Technician to join our growing production team in Newnan.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in automotive body preparation, sanding, composites, fiberglass repair, painting, or surface finishing who takes pride in quality workmanship.

No aviation experience is required—we will train the right candidate.

Position Summary

The Surface Prep Technician prepares aircraft interior components for painting and decorative finishing. The position involves cleaning, sanding, masking, surface repair, body filler application, and quality inspection to ensure parts are properly prepared before entering the paint process.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare aircraft interior components, including sidewall panels, overhead bins, ceiling panels, lavatories, galleys, tray tables, and other composite or metal parts.
• Sand, scuff, scrape, and clean surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
• Apply, shape, and feather body filler (Bondo or equivalent) to create smooth, defect-free surfaces.
• Perform minor fiberglass and composite repairs.
• Mask and protect areas that should not be painted and remove masking after preparation.
• Clean parts using approved solvents and adhesive removers.
• Wet sand, polish, and buff surfaces as required.
• Assist painters and production team members with staging and preparation of parts.
• Read and follow work instructions, repair procedures, and technical documentation.
• Inspect completed preparation work to ensure it meets quality standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow applicable OSHA and FAA safety requirements.
• Assist other team members as needed to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 1–3 years of experience in surface preparation, auto body repair, painting support, composites, or a related field preferred.
• Experience using body fillers, sanding equipment, and hand tools.
• Basic fiberglass or composite repair experience is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions and repair documentation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
• Dependable work ethic and reliable transportation.
• Valid driver's license preferred.

Preferred Experience

Experience in any of the following is a plus:

• Automotive collision repair or body shop preparation
• Aircraft interior refurbishment
• Industrial painting or finishing
• Fiberglass or composite repair
• Wet sanding and buffing
