Few issues are generating more discussion right now than Georgia's recently passed property tax legislation, SB 33, and what it could mean for communities like ours in the years ahead.
While the legislation is intended to provide property tax relief, it is also raising important questions about fiscal sustainability, revenue predictability, and the future balance of our local tax base.
Recent legislative actions have prompted significant discussion among Georgia's business leaders. Some, including Georgia Chamber President & CEO Chris Clark, have expressed concerns about the potential implications for economic competitiveness, local government finance, and Georgia's position as the nation's top state for business.
As Newnan and Coweta County continue to grow, many are asking:- How do we maintain the ability to invest in infrastructure, public safety, parks, housing, and the services that support a thriving community?
- How do we preserve a balanced and sustainable tax base that allows local governments to plan for the future?
- Could businesses ultimately shoulder a greater share of the tax burden, and what might that mean for future investment, job creation, and economic competitiveness?
- How might these changes impact workforce stability, housing affordability, and our community's long-term prosperity?
There are no easy answers to these questions, which is exactly why the Newnan-Coweta Chamber, in partnership with Newnan Mayor James Shepherd, is convening this conversation with our business community.Tell a Friend
